Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best-known type of massage. If it’s your first time receiving a massage and you’re not sure what to expect pressure wise, Swedish massage is the perfect place to start. Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, to ease muscle tension, and to enhance circulation.
Deep tissue massage is especially helpful for chronically tense or sore muscles. This type of massage is beneficial with increasing joint mobility, repetitive strain injuries, chronic pain, and muscle tension or spasm. A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot in the tissue that causes pain, burning, tingling or numbness. The sensations can be felt locally (right where they are) as well as referring sensation to other areas. Trigger points can be the result of posture, stress and fatigue, direct trauma, periods of inactivity, and repetitive movements, to name a few.
Sports massage isn’t just for elite athletes. This is great therapy for anyone who is active or works out. Sports massage improves circulation, reduces muscle tension, decreases muscle fatigue, accelerates recovery from training and competition, and contributes to better range of motion and movement. The therapist will also incorporate stretching into the session.
